First stop in France after a long drive from Calais. The Aire was pretty full when we got there, and Ruth and Mary parked on the access road. There was no electric hookup, so the fridge went onto gas, however on the first night when it got dark, I found out that the leisure batteries were not getting a charge. We we for a lovely walk along what was a railway line, now turned into a greenway, and stopped at a village which had a Lavoir. A local came out to talk to us (our poor french and sign language!) and advised us of Lavoirs in nearby villages. We didn’t want to travel further, so when the man returned to his house, we about turned and went back to our vans. Later that day Mary saw that a lamb in the neighouring field had it’s head caught in a fence, so, I climbed over a fence, and across a sheep poo loaded field to rescue it, and as soon as I got there, it managed to free itself and took off back to its mother. As I left the field (once more over the fence, I was surrounded by sheep who had the idea that I was bringing treats!
We walked into the village, and discovered several houses, built by the canons of the college in the 1700s when they took up their positions. Each house has the date it was built showing in different coloured bricks.
