The drive from Nant to Mende was spectacular, with fantastic views. The road passes through the Parc National de Cevennes and rose up to a height of over 1500 metres at one point.
Mende is a medieval city, with very narrow streets. The city wall was demolished , but one tower rremains, which is used by the White Penitents (a religious group).
The cathedral contains several Aubuson tapestries.
